The Slender Man

The Slender Man

 One of the World's scariest myths, especially to the little children. He is described as being very tall, and has unhumanly long limbs, that stretch and grab his pray. He has been said to be wearing a black suit and have no face. Another creepy part about the Slender Man is that he has been known to have things that are coming off of his back that resemble tenticals. He has numerous aspects to him that are cause for concern such as he causes memory loss, insomnia, sickness, and other terrible things. He is know to mainly attack children. I have been looking for the original orgin of this mythical monster but unfortunatly it cameup cold. A close friend of mine told me he hear the story originated in Germany as kind of a scary bed time story. The Slender man has many names and has been reported to be seen by many people across the globe. The photograph above I got from an interesting website (http://www.memeorigin.com/slender-man/)  that talks about the scandle behind the photographs, it says that after the photo was taken fourteen children had vanished even though the photo was supposed to be a "fake" creepy right! A fire happened a week later in the library where the photos were, and the only evidense of the photos were stolen. It is said that urban legends such as the Slender Man become real only if we believe. But that is the case in many other myths and superstitions as well. I guess it all depends do you believe???

Bloody Mary Bloody Mary

 We all know the legend of Blood Mary, or at least most of us do. Just in case I will remind you. You stand in front of a mirrior and stand alone, you turn off all the lights and say the simple phrase "Bloody Mary Bloody Mary Bloody Mary" Then you stare at the mirrior and it is said that she will appear to you and come through the mirror and kill you. Of course this idea has been portayed in multiple movies and over dramatised by many people. But the question is where did this orginate from? Well Bloody Mary Is based off of Mary Tudor queen of England. She killed hundreds of protesants for hersey, she did this because she was a very faithfull catholic, as was her mother Cathrine of Arogon. Acording to some people they think that the Bloody Mary myth originated from Mary Worth who was a "witch" that was killed durring the salmen witch trials. Some versions of the myth varies, as does the form of the aparition herself. Some people firmly believe in this urban legond to an extreme. Stock Up On Your Garlic

The Myth of the Vampire,
One of historys most deadliest monsters and one of my personal favorites :) It is well know that one of the strangest myths about vampires is the fact that garlic is supposed to repel the monster. I mean what an odd thing to do. Does this mean that garlic breath, or garlic pizza has the same effect? And where does this myth originate it from? Well from my research I couldnt find much on why it is people belive this. All I could pull up was the vampires have sensitive noses, which would make sense considering they hunt out humans and pick up thier scent. So it is believed that vampires dont like smelly things such as garlic but it wouldnt be a good idea to use it on the most experinced vampires.

Vampires sleep in coffins in  the movies, which makes sense considering they are dead. However when I looked at this site it indicated that vampires do this becase they sleep where they feel safe from the people who are trying to hunt them. This myth came around came from graverobbers who think they saw people emerge from a coffin.
The site also has some other interesting myths on vampires such as why vampires are not vissible in mirrors, crosses repel them, and the ever so popular myth that vampires burst into flame when in contact with the sun.

Anyway in this blog i hope you will learn about some of my personal favorite urban legends and superstitions that tie back into mythology. I personally believe that any story can potentially have the power to become a myth, and a myth to me is only a story with a deep hidden message (sometimes more obvious and less deep). I also hope that by reading this blog you will get a deeper understanding of superstitions and how they can effect our daily lives, and how they as well were born from myths.
